Day 7 (Knife)
For reasons that will be detailed later, this report will be short and have no pictures. Hopefully I can borrow Steve's notes for today, because my journal entry was a little messy... :)
Up and out in the early AM. Made it to Prairie portage early in the morning, nothing was open there yet. Steve found a couple of wild strawberries. There was a two hole outhouse at the portage that we put to use as well. We saw a fair amount of traffic on the short portages from Birch into Carp into Knife. The people we talked to I think were pretty suprised to hear of our destination. We had been in a week at this point and were feeling pretty strong and sassy. We stopped for lunch at Isle of Pines, the site of Dorothy Molter. There wasn't much sign left of inhabitation, the only real obvious one was the moorings from a dock. Amazing what nature can do when given 20 years to overgrow. We started hearing some rumblings while at Isle of Pines, and had put in a long day the previous day, so we made camp on Knife not far east of there for a distance travelled of 13 miles. We were in camp early so we had an afternoon to relax. I had brought along some Jack Daniels Old No. 7 and I took this opportunity to lessen our pack weight by drinking some. Evidently the Tiger Bay Tea tasted a little too tasty and I was a wee bit silly by evening - hence the sloppy notes and no pictures.
No pictures today.
Final tally:
13 miles
Lots of small portages (need to get number from Steve)
Wildlife:
28 loons, 5 eagles, 2 herons
Dinner:
chicken enchilada pasta dish + rice side
Weather:
cloudy, 60s all day. Rain/storms in evening.
Ely: High 62, Low 55. Rain started at 6pm

atta boy!
I'll bet Steve has some interesting observations about that evening.

Matt,
Should I regale the readers/viewers with tales of your drunken carousing, your besotted escapades, your intoxicated swimming with the loons? Or should I just tell the boring truth? I can send you my notes for that day or I could write up a little blurb that you could just add. Let me know!
Steve
The loyal readers demand full disclosure. Tales of drunken carousing? Besotted escapades? Intoxicated swimming with the loons? Do tell. Pictures!?!?
Matt has taken the oath to JND and I cannot believe he would violate that trust or jeopordize his good standing.
...you said there were pictures?
Please don't stop
Hey Matt,
since you're a couple days behind on the updates, you'll have to fill me in in person on the 13th.
We'll be drinkin' dark whiskey, tellin' white lies. One leads to another on a Saturday night.
Baptiste
